When Peter and John were brought before the Jewish Ruling Council in Acts 4 and warned not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus, Peter replied that they could not "help speaking about what they had seen and heard." When you know something to be true because either you saw it, or you have clear evidence of it, there is no hesitation in talking about it. Jeremiah said the same thing in chapter 20:9; "But if I say, "I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot." Only when we are not certain if something is true are we hesitant to speak about it. Is that why we are often reluctant to tell others about the saving power of Jesus? Do we really believe in the Gospel?
