Have you ever walked out to your car and realized you left your windows down after it rained overnight? I have. I've accidentally left tools out in the yard overnight that got wet. These things are frustrating because we depend on our tools and our technology in order to get things done. We must take care of them.
The work of the church, the mission of God, cannot be done on our own either. We must rely on the strength of three things: Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and each other (the church). Therefore, we cannot neglect the upkeep and maintenance required in our relationship with these strengths. Just as you change the oil in your car, so you nurture your relationships with your brothers and sisters. Jesus says in John 15:4, "No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me." We maintain our relationship with Jesus when we love each other like Jesus has loved us (John 15:12). Zig Ziglar says love is spelled T-I-M-E. Jesus would affirm. How much time are you putting into your relationships? Do they need some upkeep and maintenance?
