Having established the resurrection of Christ as the demonstration of the pledge to raise the believer’s body, Paul expects to answer two questions. “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body?” In 1st Corinthians 15:35-42 Paul writes to answer these two questions. The questions would probably be generated by someone still not convinced in the supernatural event of resurrection. Paul uses illustrations which would make sense in his time to try and explain God’s plan. Essentially, God takes a seed (physical body) and plants it in its appropriate environment (earth). The seed then dies and germinates (spiritual transformation) becoming a new sprout that while related to the seed and sharing internal qualities of the seed (connected to what was sown) is quite different in appearance and purpose. The sprout then continues to grow and produce life (demonstrating continuity). This is the glory and hope for the resurrected. While death must take place, that death brings forth newand eternal life. Resurrection of the body leads to the gift of eternity with God.
